Kmart® Launches Pay in Store, Giving Shop Your Way(SM) Members and Customers More Online Shopping Options

Leading integrated retailer now offers cash as in-store payment option for items reserved online

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., July 24, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --ÌýIn an integrated retailing first, Shop Your Way members and customers now have more payment choices with Kmart's nationwide launch of Pay in Store. The new option gives shoppers the flexibility to reserve items online, pay at their local Kmart store using their preferred payment method – cash, check, debit, points*, credit or gift card – and pick up the item onsite if available. The innovation is another example of how the retailer is evolving to provide a seamless and integrated shopping experience for all members, whether they choose to shop online, via mobile or in-store.

"With Pay in Store, we offer our members more choices and provide access to online shopping for a large, underserved portion of the U.S. population that wants the convenience of shopping online but does not have a credit card or is reluctant to submit their card information via the Internet," said Imran Jooma, executive vice president and president, Marketing, Online, and Financial Services, Sears Holdings. "We are addressing a need in a way no other large retailer is doing by giving members and customers ultimate flexibility, convenience and choice in how they shop and pay and the satisfaction of walking out minutes later with their items in-hand."

How it Works
When a shopper reaches the payment screen at Kmart.com they can choose the Pay in Store option to reserve the item(s) for 48 hours (not all products are eligible). Within minutes the shopper receives a confirmation email and can head to the store. At the register in store, the shopper presents their email confirmation, order number, or phone number, and pays with their preferred method. If the order is a same-day order, the shopper picks up the order immediately. If the shopper selected ship-to-home, the order is approved after payment and often arrives within two business days.

"Customers want a shopping experience that seamlessly integrates the physical world of shopping with the digital world, including the ability to find additional product information and richer content with customer reviews," said Jooma. "We are constantly innovating with new and better ways to serve our members, and we expect the new Pay in Store option will better fulfill their needs."Ìý

launched in all Kmart stores nationwide in July. This feature gives members and customers that don't use credit cards access to thousands of items at Kmart.com, which includes categories such as home, fitness & sports, beauty & health, clothing, music, movies, gaming and more.
