Sears Donates More Than $210,000 for Tornado Relief Services

Funding and Clothing Contributed by Retailer

Sears, Roebuck and Co. pledged $210,000 in funding and clothing donations to help local residents recover from Saturday's devastating tornado.

Sears has presented the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund with a $10,000 donation to aid in relief efforts. In addition, Sears is donating more than $200,000 (retail value) in new children's clothing to the Salvation Army of West Alabama. Sears apparel donation was coordinated by Kids in Distressed Situations (K.I.D.S.), a national organization serving the needs of young people impacted by natural disasters and other challenging situations.

"Sears is proud to play a leadership role in disaster relief activities nationally and in local communities like Tuscaloosa," explained Louis Collins, Sears store general manager in Tuscaloosa. "Responding to community needs is a priority for Sears. It's our chance to demonstrate support for families in our communities."

"This incredible donation of new clothing for our local children is heartwarming," said Lt. Monica Swyers of the Salvation Army of Tuscaloosa. "Considering the tornado's impact on our families and this special time of year, we are proud to help Sears distribute apparel to our young neighbors."

Sears is a national sponsor of the American Red Cross, donating $1 million over five years to disaster relief services throughout the nation. Last year, Sears and its associates, along with The Sears-Roebuck Foundation, contributed nearly $30 million in funding and merchandise to a variety of family-focused health, human service, education and other civic organizations nationwide. In addition, Sears associates and their families provided more than 275,000 hours of volunteer service for community projects throughout the country.
