Craftsman Revs Up Outdoor Power

Craftsman® tools, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, has responded to the demand by homeowners for high-powered lawn and garden innovations. This spring, Craftsman introduced the industry's most powerful consumer lawn mower and tractor ... a 24-volt, cordless line trimmer and hedge trimmer for power on the go ... a power-packed, portable cultivator/edger that prepares flowerbeds or trims walkways in minutes ... plus the water power of a sprinkler with 50 percent more lawn coverage.

Craftsman has introduced a propelled, front-wheel-drive lawn mower (#33314), with a 7 hp Briggs & Stratton engine -- the most powerful lawn mower engine ever built for use at home. More power means efficient cutting and easier mowing on inclines. The mower is equipped with a 21-inch convertible deck for mulching, dispersing or bagging grass clippings. Its rear-bag design is great for maneuvering around trees, bushes, flowerbeds and other obstacles.

The industry's mightiest mower is joined by the most powerful consumer tractor on the market -- the Craftsman 27 hp Kohler Pro Garden Tractor (#27528, $3,999). Operating this tractor is almost like driving a car, since it features an automatic transmission with pressurized lubrication, automotive-type oil filter and an electronic ignition for fast dependable starts.

The new Craftsman® Cultivator/Edger (#29270, $299.99) is equipped with a 4-cycle engine that conveniently eliminates the need to mix oil and gas -- a typical extra step necessary with most 2-cycle engines found on cultivators. Its exclusive Craftsman rotating tines easily bust sod, prepare seedbeds and cultivate gardens and flowerbeds. An 8-inch, edging blade and guide wheel are included for edging walkways, driveways, patios and paths.

The new Craftsman 24-Volt Cordless Weedwacker® Line Trimmer/Edger (74805, $79.99) and Craftsman 24-Volt Cordless Hedge Trimmer (#74802, $79.99) are powered by lead acid batteries, which provide longer run times than rechargeable trimmers with 12-volt NiCad packs. The cord-free trimmer/edger cuts a 10-inch swath with its professional grade .080 hex-shaped nylon line. The cordless hedge trimmer cuts through hedges and bushes effortlessly, severing branches up to 3/8 inches thick. It has a single-action 18-inch stainless steel blade with blade brake.

Homeowners with big lawns won't have to move the Craftsman Extra-Large Coverage Pulsating Sprinkler (#79215, $24.99) as often because it covers up to 50 percent more area than sprinklers with conventional pulsating heads. The water jet covers up to 8,500-square-feet of lawn. The powerful sprinkler features trip levers for full or partial coverage, as well as a reversing full-circle setting. A rotating deflector dial sets watering distance, and a diffuser screw allows fingertip adjustment of water spray density from a heavy stream to fine mist. The sprinkler is rustproof and the base folds out for stability and convenient storage.

These and other powerful innovations are available at Sears, which sells more powered lawn and garden equipment than any other U.S. retailer. Consumers rank Craftsman tools the number one quality brand in the U.S. -- ahead of Waterford crystal and Rolls-Royce motor cars, according to a recent EquiTrend(SM) study by Harris Interactive.
