Visiting the Sears Cooling Station could also make your kitchen a better place. Sears is giving consumers a sneak peek of its breadth of selection by showcasing a variety of the hottest energy-efficient refrigerators on the market. Sears' Kenmore refrigerators are not only Energy Star-qualified, but are also very affordable, starting at $499.

The following refrigeration facts and tips are as helpful as they are surprising:

-- If just 20 percent of all refrigerators met the Kenmore Elite
standard, at least 38.6 million kWh would be saved annually. That
additional electricity would be enough to light Chicago for one-and-
      a-half weeks!
-- If cars had increased their fuel efficiency as quickly as
refrigerators have over the last 25 years, we'd all get 80 miles to
      the gallon.
-- If every U.S. household replaced its 10-year-old refrigerator with a
new Kenmore Elite Energy Star-qualified model, the nation could save
enough energy to light every household in Chicago for almost 28
      years!
-- The Kenmore Elite UltraFresh 26-cubic foot side-by-side refrigerator
uses the same amount of energy required as a 75 watt light bulb.*
-- A full refrigerator uses less energy to operate than an empty one ...
      Stock up!
-- Don't keep your refrigerator too cold. Recommended temperatures are
      37 degrees to 40 degrees F.
-- Cover liquids and wrap foods stored in the refrigerator. Uncovered
foods release moisture and make the compressor work harder.
