Sears Teams Up With Gale Sayers and Sayers40, Inc. to Assist With The Retailers' Strategic Update of Its Distributed Processing Server Infrastructure

Sears, Roebuck and Co. (NYSE: S) and Sayers40, Inc. announced today that they have entered into a strategic business transaction whereby Sears will replace a significant portion of its existing distributed processing server infrastructure with the newly released IBM server platform.

Earlier this year, as part of a concentrated effort to update its computer infrastructure, Sears called on Sayers40, Inc., a minority business enterprise founded by former NFL great, Gale Sayers, to procure the new infrastructure via a partnership with IBM Global Services.

"We are thrilled to announce the completion of the first phase of this project," said Garry Kelly, Sears senior vice president and chief information officer. "We were confident that Gale's team had the requisite expertise to manage the procurement of this mission critical equipment. Sayers has been with us every step of the way. This project is crucial to our relationships with our customers and we are happy to announce that we are on schedule."

This is the first major business deal between Sayers40 and Sears. "Sears has long done business with minority business enterprises," said Gale Sayers, founder of Sayers. "Entrusting my organization with a project such as this shows that a genuine commitment to minority business is part of the Sears culture."
